Thomas came into our lives, as desired as he was unexpected. Even before his birth, we knew that the journey ahead wouldn’t be easy! This little boy, tiny and fragile in his glass box, was just beginning the life lesson he would impart to us. Extraordinary resilience and unwavering courage characterized his early days. At home, his room was ready to welcome him for weeks, but he decided not to take his place there, not just yet.
Time passed, and happiness, his happiness, accompanied his courage and resilience; he was ready for his room, in his house! There were ups and downs thereafter. The only constant was happiness, his, ours, and also love. The unconditional love of his parents, but above all, the boundless love of this little boy for life, for all the little things in life.
Perhaps he knew he had to make the most of it, that his fragility made him vulnerable. We, his parents, didn’t want to dwell on it too much. Just live this happiness with him. And then he decided that he had done what he came into our lives for. He left, leaving us with an unfillable void. Yet we still feel his presence: in our minds, in our hearts, and in many small signs of life, which we want very much to interpret as “hellos” from him.
Thomas, we love you as big as the sky… in the sky!
